About Us

Village Villa is a Bed and Breakfast in the quiet little town of Zhu Qi, Taiwan.  Zhu Qi can be found in Chia Yi County in Southern Taiwan, located at the foot of Ali Shan (Mountain Ali). Despite its size, Zhu Qi has many scenic spots in the area such as Alishan National Scenic Area, Fenqihu (Fen Qi Lake), Ruili Scenic Area, and many more. The B&B is next to the Zhuqi train station and very close to Zhuqi Water Park. The city’s slow, relaxed-pace allows visitors to experience the local Taiwanese lifestyle, away from all the commotion often found in larger cities.

Village Villa features country style rooms and common areas brimming with charming decorations. The staff are hospitable and helpful and are sure to make guests feel welcome from the moment they arrive. Village Villa has been recognized for their excellent service and has been admitted into the “319 Smile League”, an organization that acknowledges companies that possess five key traits: friendliness, cleanliness, taste, character, and happiness.

There are two buildings on site, Village Villa and Bohe House, each with five bedrooms. Guests are given the option of two-person or four-person rooms. No two rooms are alike, so be sure to check them all out to see which one is most suitable for you.  Each room has wifi-access and its own bathroom. All guests receive complimentary breakfast from our excellent staff. The kitchens are reserved for staff-use only, due to space, but the kitchen may be used if a party reserves all 5 rooms in the building.

In order to maintain the quality of the environment here for our guests and employees, smoking is prohibited and pets are not allowed inside any of the buildings. We thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Below is a list of our rooms and prices. Please note that the prices are per room, not per person. Pictures are also available below, followed by some guidelines and important information to know when booking a room.

Reserving a Room

We apologize that we do not currently have an English website prepared for our international guests, so in the meantime, please email us at village.villa2@gmail.com to inquire about rooms and we will help you with the reservation process.

Information to include in your email:
-Basic personal information: first and last name and contact information
-The dates and the number of days you wish to stay (we currently only accept reservations within three months of your arrival)
-Desired room number(s) (If you would like to reserve more than one room, please include all desired room numbers)
Note: Please keep in mind that, since you will not be able to see which rooms are available (unless of course you can read Chinese :) ) , you may want to include a couple room options that you are interested in, just in case your first choice has already been reserved by another party. This is especially true the closer you are to your desired travel time. We thank you for your patience and understanding. If you're feeling adventurous, you may, if you wish, view the website (which is in Chinese) and select the date at the top for your desired check-in date and you will be able to see which rooms are available. This will enable you to have an idea of which rooms are available before contacting us with your preferences. Here is the link to the reservation page: http://www.vivilla.com.tw/order/order_main01.aspx?storeid=01. But of course, it might just be easier to ask us which rooms are available for your intended travel dates.

Things to know

As stated above, our accommodation times are:

Check-in time is 3pm until around 9:30pm.

Check-out time ends at 11am.

12-3pm is our housekeepers designated time to tidy up rooms as well as rest. We apologize that we are unable to provide check-in service during that time.

To our driving guests, please park in the parking lot behind Village Villa and proceed to walk to the Reception Center to check in.

Guests have the option to add an additional bed or blanket to a room if necessary.

 Costs for additional guests:
Any person over 120 cm: $400 NT (includes extra bed and breakfast)
Any person between 100-120 cm: $200 NT (includes extra blanket and breakfast, but not bed)
Service for adding an additional bed includes: providing an extra mattress, pillow, blanket, spare parts, and breakfast. Specifications of extra mattress: ~3x7 foot, 10 cm thick tri-fold mattress.

Additional blankets for guests will require an additional cost of $100 NT each to account for cleaning costs. Blanket specifications are: ~5x7 foot, single-person, down comforter. (Please note that this is not an additional charge on top of the added cost for adding an extra guest, if that guest is a child. These are separate occurences, should a guest require an extra blanket)

Every guest is welcome to complimentary breakfast at Village Villa.

After booking a room, a deposit of 30% of the total (rounded to the nearest whole number) must be made within 3 days, otherwise the reservation will be regarded as a cancellation. (the day of reservation counts as Day 1)

After 10pm, we ask that you would please talk quietly, and parents we ask that you would kindly tell your children not to bother other guests.

This B&B strictly forbids barbecuing, excessive drinking and wild behavior, drug use (this includes marijuana), or gambling. If you would like to use the kitchen, please inform one of the house managers (But, out of respect for other guests’ space, we ask that the kitchen be reserved for guests who have reserved the entire building)

After completing the reservation process, if you wish to cancel your stay, and inform us at least 14 days before the date of your reservation, there will be no penalty and the full amount will be refunded. If notified within 14 days of the reservation, a penalty will be applied. However, if you choose to postpone your intended time of stay to a later date, we will hold your reservation for up to 6 months and no penalty will be applied. If, at any time during the 6-month process, you decide to cancel your postponed reservation, the original penalty will still be applied. If you cancel your reservation closer to the date of your intended stay than at the time of your original postponement, the greater penalty will be applied. (please reference the following refund criteria for more information)

Deposit Refund Criteria

Reservation cancellation and deposit refund criteria: According to the Ministry of Transportation and Communication’s Order issued on January 13, 2010, the rules for the “The tourist hotel industry, hotels, and individual travelers in B&Bs room reservation model” are as follows:
Regulations for refunds for booking cancellations
Party A (the guest), when cancelling a reservation, must require that Party B (the company) abide by the following standards for refunding paid deposits:
1. If Party A notifies Party B of its intent to cancel a reservation at least 14 days prior to the date of the reservation, Party B is required to refund the total deposit amount.
2. If Party A notifies Party B of its intent to cancel a reservation between 10-13 days prior to the date of the reservation, Party B is required to refund 70% of the total deposit amount.
3. If Party A notifies Party B of its intent to cancel a reservation between 7-9 days prior to the date of the reservation, Party B is required to refund 50% of the total deposit amount.
4. If Party A notifies Party B of its intent to cancel a reservation between 4-6 days prior to the date of the reservation, Party B is required to refund 40% of the total deposit amount.
5. If Party A notifies Party B of its intent to cancel a reservation between 2-3 days prior to the date of the reservation, Party B is required to refund 30% of the total deposit amount.
6. If Party A notifies Party B of its intent to cancel a reservation 1 day prior to the date of the reservation, Party B is required to refund 20% of the total deposit amount.
7. If Party A notifies Party B of its intent to cancel a reservation on the same day of the date of the reservation or fails to notify Party B, Party B is not required to refund any of the total deposit amount.

If, because of an act of God or circumstances outside of Party A’s control, Party A was unable to fulfill the contract, Party B should proceed to refund the deposit without penalty. For example, if natural disasters such as typhoons, earthquakes, or road blocks occur, Party A will be given the option to postpone or receive a total refund. Government announcements will serve as the norm for determining what constitutes a natural disaster.

Local Points of Interest

Alishan National Scenic Area

Ali Shan ("shan" means "mountain" in Chinese) is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Southern Taiwan. The view of the sunset is absolutely breathtaking, and every day masses of tourists wake up early to go see it in all its splendor. Be sure to check the weather and go when the weather is nice, so that you can get a clear view of the sunrise. The mountain is also covered with forests, various plants and wildlife, with multiple climate zones that vary according to the altitude. It is worth noting that the road up the mountain is full of twists and turns, so if you are prone to motion sickness, you may want to bring some medication just in case. Also, be sure to try and/or buy some of Alishan's tea while you're there! It's famous!

Fenqihu (Fen Qi Lake)

Oh, you thought this was a lake? What would make you think that? Well there is no lake, sorry. This area is called Fenqi "lake" because, when the fog and mist roll in, it bears the image of a lake. If you have the chance of seeing the city from above, you might understand why they decided to call it that. So now that you know there will be no swimming or throwing rocks or whatever you do at a lake, what do you do at this so-called "lake"? The area was founded in 1850 and is famous for its "old street". They still have some old locomotives that were imported from America in the early 1900s. The street resembles Taipei's Jiufen (worth checking out if you're in Taipei), with many small stands and shops selling small crafts and local delicicies. The most famous of meals is the "Fenqihu railway rice lunchbox", which is similar to your normal traditional Asian lunchbox (Bento in japanese) (便当 bian dang in Chinese). For those of you who are unfamiliar with this meal, it generally consists of rice, vegetables and some kind of meat (usually pork). What's special about these lunchboxes is that they are what were sold to the passengers on those same trains many years ago. They are served in round, metal containers, which are available for purchase as souvenirs (gotta love commercialization). The meal itself is around 120 NT and the container sells for around 300NT. Wouldn't you like to eat your 便当(see description above) out of a classic metal container every day like an old-school Taiwanse person?

Ruili Scenic Area

Ruili scenic area is a gorgeous spot just outside of Chia Yi. Just like the area surrounding Alishan, Ruili is home to vast bamboo forests and an abundance of flora and fauna. However, perhaps the most notable feature of Ruili is Swallow Cliff. Swallow Cliff contains a number of waterfalls that are just breathtaking. Only if it has rained recently, will the waterfalls in fact be waterfalls, so keep the weather in mind when planning your trip. There is a trail that is well-known by locals, but not as popular among tourists called the Youth Trail. It is called the Youth Trail perhaps because only the young (at least young at heart) have the energy to do it. This trail extends past the Swallow Cliff and is said to be quite challenging. So, if you like hiking, and you're up for a challenge, you  might consider taking on the Youth Trail. If you prefer a more relaxing hike, you can choose to turn around once you reach Swallow Cliff.
